Vetcodes
When you use PULSE Platform Vet Lists to process animals in the mobile app, you will have the option to select follow‑up events for each animal. The PULSE Platform Vetcodes page makes it easy to add and edit event shortcuts for your Vet Lists:
You can find this feature under the DairyComp, Settings menu. See the topics below for more information.

As shown in the example above, the vet code settings page lists all vet codes and the corresponding vet checks that are available for your dairy.
The vet codes shown here are taken directly from the veterinary code table in DC305 DairyComp305 - VAS Dairy Management Software. If the vet checks for your dairy have been modified, please note that you may see different vet code (VC
Vet code) numbers and vet checks than the ones shown as examples here. There are 11 default vet codes and 4 optional user‑defined codes, so please note that HFRS may not exist in your cowfile. If you wish to add a new vet check, please contact VAS Support for help because it must be done carefully. See Generate Worklists to learn more about the vet checks displayed in the PULSE Platform Vetcodes page.
The following information is displayed for each vet code in the list:
- VC: Numeric vet code from DC305.
- VETC
Reason for vet check: The abbreviated reason for the vet check. See Standard VetCodes from DC305 below for more details on the standard set of DC305 vet codes.
- Active: Indicates whether the code is currently active
or inactive
for your dairy. Check the Show Inactive field at the top of the page to show inactive vet codes in the list.
- Description: A brief description of the code. See Standard VetCodes from DC305 below for a more detailed description of each code.
- Filters: The filters listed in this column define the conditions under which DC305 will assign the corresponding vet code to an animal. If an animal meets all of the conditions specified in the related filters, that animal will be added under that vet code to the vet list. If you see a plus sign and a number to the right of the filter, it indicates that this code has more than one filter. Click the indicator to view the additional filters:
- Events: This column shows which event shortcuts have been added to each vet check. The shortcuts are displayed in the same order they are assigned to the vet code; click the plus sign to the right of the first event name to view the remaining event shortcuts.

Follow the steps below to edit a vet code, including its filters and which event shortcuts are available for each vet check in the mobile app:
- Click any row to open its vet code for editing in a side panel. As illustrated above, the side panel displays the same data as each column in the table, and it includes a section to select event shortcuts.
- Click the Active Vetcode toggle to make the vet code active or inactive.
- Click the Description field to change the text description of the vet code. This field is optional.
- Click the Filters drop‑down list in the side panel to manage the filters for the vet code:
- Edit the Item, Operator, and Value fields to control the application of the filter.
- Drag and drop filters to reorder them (by clicking the dots to the left of the filter name), or click the x on a filter to delete it from the vet code.
- Click Add new filter to add a filter to the vet code.
- Click the Events drop‑down list in the side panel, and select up to 7 common events that your vet may need to choose after examining animals under the corresponding vet code:
- Start typing an event name in the drop-down box to locate matches.
- As you add events, they are displayed with a blue background below the drop‑down field. The mobile app will display the event shortcuts in the order you see them here.
- Drag and drop events to reorder them (be sure to click the dots to the left of the event name to grab that item), and click the x on an event if you want to delete its shortcut from the vet code.
- When you are finished editing, click the Save button. If you need to clear your edits and start again, click the Reset button.
- After you save your changes, the event shortcuts will be updated in the mobile app during the next care package
VAS uses the term "Care Package" to describe the updates that the PULSE Platform "packages up" and sends to the mobile app. The Care Package is used to keep the mobile app updated with the most recent on-premise data received by the PULSE Platform. update. They will then be displayed as shortcuts when processing each animal in the vet list (see example above). The app automatically provides an Other button that allows you to select another event if you do not see a shortcut for the one you need.

The check code adds an animal to the list because the dairy specifically wants this animal checked the next time the veterinarian visits.

The fresh code is for dairies that need the veterinarian to examine animals before they will begin breeding them. The value of 14 tells DC305 to include an animal whose RPRO Reproductive code status is Fresh on the first vet check after the animal is 14 days in milk.

The pregnant code adds animals to the list for pregnancy checks. A value of 35 indicates that veterinarian should perform a pregnancy check on animals during the first herd check after the animals are 35 DSLH Days since last heat.

The recheck for pregnancy code is for dairies that have trouble with animals aborting their calves. It is to recheck animals for pregnancy.

The overdue code adds animals who are pregnant and are now 300 or more DCC Days carrying calf/pregnant. It is to make sure those animals are not accidentally "lost" in the dry pen.

Often if a dairy sees a pregnant animal showing signs of heat they may breed her. When this breeding is entered in DC305, the animal remains pregnant, but the abort? flag instructs the veterinarian to determine if she is still pregnant to the original breeding or if she has aborted and is now just another "bred status" animal.

The cystic code lists animals who are re-bred within 10 days of the previous breeding. If an animal is re-bred within 2 days, it is considered the same heat and not suspected cystic behavior.

The no heat code with a value of 30 flags animals who were previously bred, called open, and have not been successfully re-bred yet. A typical estrus cycle is 21 days, heat to heat, so if you check for pregnancy at 35 days, and the animal was checked open, you know that she has already missed at least 2 heats.

The no heat code with a value of 90 flags animals who are too many days in milk and are not yet bred. In this case the animal would have to be 90 days in milk and not yet have been bred.

The problem code indicates that an animal is a problem breeder and should be listed on the vet list every herd check until the animal gets pregnant. In this case animals more than 150 days open are listed until they become pregnant.

If activated, the XBRD code will list animals who are bred 3 or more times until they become pregnant.

When the heifers code is enabled, it will flag animals that:
- Have not yet been bred.
AND
- Are the months of age designated in the code's value.
Remember that DC305's veterinary parameters normally define the list for adults as FOR LACT Lactation number>0. You will often find another command, for the heifers vet list (HVLIST), which specifies FOR LACT=0. Note that HFRS may not exist in your cowfile.
