Milk Quality Widget Details

Averages: The top row includes average values for all deliveries made over the last 14 days.

Date: Delivery date. If more than one delivery was made on the date, click to expand the date and view all deliveries.

Amount: Total amount of milk in the delivery (in lbs).

Somatic Cell Count (SCC Somatic cell count): The amount of somatic cells in the milk (in cells/ml x 1000). SCC is an indicator of milk quality, as most somatic cells found in milk are white blood cells, which are produced as an immune response to an infection. Generally, lower SCC values point to better animal health and milk quality.

Fat:  Milkfat percentage.

Protein: Protein percentage.

Milk urea nitrogen (MUN Milk Urea Nitrogen):  The amount of MUN in the milk (in mg/dl). Milk urea nitrogen values are used to monitor the way an animal utilizes nutrients from the diet. Urea is produced in the liver from ammonia derived from the breakdown of protein in the rumen and from normal daily metabolism. If bacteria in the rumen cannot capture the ammonia and convert it to protein, the excess ammonia is absorbed and converted to urea to prevent toxicity. This urea is excreted in urine, manure and milk, and can be quantified in the testday milk samples.

Solids Nonfat: Percentage of nonfat solids, including lactose, caseins, whey proteins, and minerals.

Other Solids: Percentage of other solids (not including fat and nonfat solids).

Temperature: Temperature of the milk, as measured by the dairy's bulk tank (°F).

Tank Number: The dairy's bulk tank from which the milk was received.
