Embryo Transfer Event (Platform Event, EC 3000)

The VAS PULSE Platform Embryo module is a valuable tool that allows you to manage your Embryo Inventory and enter Embryo Transfer events in the mobile app. The PULSE Platform makes adding embryos simple, and defining embryo details in advance saves you precious time during embryo transfer tasks while out on the dairy with your embryo technician.

You can find this feature under the DairyComp menu.

This topic explains how to use an Embryo Transfer event in the mobile app to record when a recipient female has received a transferred embryo that originated from either an IVFClosed or embryo flushClosed. For help viewing Embryo Inventory, or adding and editing embryos, see the Embryos topic in the DairyComp section of this online help.

Select an Embryo from Inventory

IMPORTANT: To be able to view and select an embryo from inventory, a WiFi or data connection is required.

After embryos are added to Embryo Inventory in the web version of the PULSE Platform, they are available for selection from the mobile app. Complete the steps below to select an embryo from inventory for the Embryo Transfer event (if you need help creating the event, see Tips for Entering Events:

  1. Tap the Add Animals button at the top left of the event page, and choose an animal to add to this event.

The app allows you to add female animals in OK/Open or Heifer RPROClosed status, and warns you if you attempt to add animals that do not meet these criteria. The app will not restrict you from adding a female that is dry, already pregnant, younger than the minimum breeding age, recently freshened, or flagged as "do not breed"; it simply warns you of their status so that you can determine whether to continue.

  2. Tap the Embryo field to select the embryo. The app opens a new page that shows the available inventory:

  3. Tap an embryo to select it. The app auto-populates the Embryo Transfer event details based on the information defined in the Embryo Inventory.
  4. Define any additional details for the event and process the event. See Define Details for this Event for more information.

What Happens When I Process Changes for this Event?

When you tap the Process My Changes button in the mobile app, it sends your updates to the PULSE Platform (WiFi or data connection required), which then sends them forward to DairyComp 305.

When the PULSE Platform receives the completed Embryo Transfer event from the mobile app, it makes the following updates:

  1. Inserts a TRANSFER event on the recipient female's Platform CowCard. This event is not tracked on-premise in DairyComp; it is specific only to the PULSE Platform CowCard.
  2. If an embryo from inventory was used for the transfer, moves the embryo from the Frozen or Fresh tab to the Transferred tab in Embryos.
  3. Adds the event details for any new embryos to the Transferred tab in Embryos.

The PULSE Platform then sends the event details it receives from the mobile app to DairyComp 305. When DC305 receives a completed Embryo Transfer event from the PULSE Platform, it processes the following changes:

IMPORTANT:
  • If you have not selected the Sire and/or Breeding Code for an animal in this event, the app will not include that animal when it sends the batch Embryo Transfer event updates back to DairyComp 305.
  • Any incomplete animals will remain visible in the mobile app Embryo Transfer event until you either remove them from the list or finish defining their details and process the changes again.

See also Details Required to Process Animals in an Event for examples of how the mobile app displays complete vs incomplete animals.

See Processing Your Changes for more information on how the mobile app, the PULSE Platform, and DairyComp 305 work together to process your changes.
