Reports

After you complete Step 4 of building a genetic plan, a total of four reports are automatically generated to assist you in the analysis and implementation of your plan:

IMPORTANT: After reviewing the reports, click the Activate Plan button to finalize the plan and share it with the dairy. Or, if you would like to modify the plan, click the Edit Plan button .

After the plan is activated, you will no longer be able to make changes or adjustments to the plan.

Use this report to review the plan costs and genetic gains for your herd:

  1. Inventory Projections Graph: Displays the difference between the expected number of female calves being born monthly and compares that count to the number needed to meet plan goals: 

    The shaded area shows the difference between the monthly counts. Additional female calves not needed in the plan may be sold for profit.

  2. Genetic ROI Graph: Choose to view the ROI based on the cost per female or total cost for the herd:

    The shaded area shows the value added based on the plan.

  3. Economic Impact: A summary of the various costs and returns that factor into the total economic gain of the plan. These gains include an increased herd value based on genetic improvements of progeny and proceeds from the sale of dairy and dairy/beef calves, minus total semen costs.

    Economic Impact = herd genetic value gain + calf sale proceeds - current genetic value of the herd - semen cost

    • Herd genetic value gain:  Value gain by genetic improvement and the additional milking cows produced by the plan. Or, (NPV * females produced in the plan) - current genetic value of the herd.
    • Calf sales: Proceeds from the sale of dairy bull calves and dairy/beef calves produced in the plan. Or, (dairy bull calves produced * cost/head) + (beef calves produced * cost/head). The total numbers of calves to be sold is based on matings with conventional, sexed, and bull semen, accounting for conception rates for cows and heifers, as well as losses due to abortions, pregnant culling, and stillbirths. The prices for dairy bull calves and beef calves is set in Step 4.
    • Current genetic value of the herd: To determine the actual financial gains from the animals produced by the plan, the value of the herd today is deducted from the total.
    • Semen cost: The Total Investment value noted below.

    Example: 

    • Replacements produced: 2250
    • NPV average: $275.85
    • Current genetic herd value: $220,500.00
    • Calves to be sold: 400 dairy bulls, 300 beef
    • Average price/calf: $75 dairy bull/$105 beef
    • Total investment: $111,916.11
    • Calculation: (2250 * $275.85) - $220,500.00 + (400 * $75) + (300 * $105) - $111,916.11 = $349,746.39

  4. Doses per Female: A summary of the semen doses per female needed in the plan.
  5. AVG Cost per Dose: A summary of the number of semen doses required for the plan, the average price per dose, and the total investment required by the dairy to follow the plan.
  6. Total Investment: Total cost of the semen doses in your plan.

    Total Investment = total cost of semen doses * cost/dose calculated for each semen type (sexed, conventional, and beef semen)

    The quantity of doses required is based on the current conception rates for heifers and cows, as well as the semen type prices and percentages set in Step 4.

    NOTE:  If the Mate to High Fertility after (x) failed breedings Mating Option is enabled, additional doses of high fertility sexed semen may be required in your plan.

  7. Parameters: A summary of the semen distribution among females, herd growth and loss rates, and the market price (per head) of dairy and beef animals.
  8. Projected Animals Produced: Projected total number of calves and milking females that will serve as replacements in the herd as a result of the plan. See the Inventory & Projections Graph in #1 for more details.
  9. Genetic ROI:  Genetic return on investment compares the plan's semen costs to the projected value of the milking progeny in 4.5 years. The projection is based on a Net Present Value (NPV) calculation of the replacement milking cows generated in the plan. The NPV is the projected monetary value of the future daughter in current-day prices.

    Genetic ROI = (NPV - investment per milking female) / investment per milking female

    • Investment per milking female takes into account the total semen cost, which is based on the Total Investment value noted above, as well as the number of replacements generated in the plan.
    • NPV: Average genetic value of daughters produced by the plan in current * (discount of 8% per year for 4.5 years)

    Example: 

    • Replacements produced: 2550
    • Total cost: 3.55 doses * $45.53 investment per female
    • NPV average: $210.85
    • Calculation: $210.85 - $45.53 / $45.53 = $3.63 per invested $, or a 363% increase

Use this report to review the bulls selected for your plan:

  1. Bulls Proofs: Includes the proof details for the bulls selected in Step 3.
  2. Bulls Usage: Lists the bulls used in the genetic plan (as selected in Step 3).
  3. First, Second, Third Choice: Each animal's mating plan includes up to three potential mating sires. The mates are ranked in order based on your custom index set in Step 2. You can also choose to control mating based on overall trait improvement in Mating Options in Step 4.

Use this report to see the impact of the plan on the herd's genetics: 

  1. Traits: All Production, Health, and Conformance traits are included in the report.
  2. Herd and Progeny values for each trait: Herd values are calculated based on the current herd. Progeny values are based on matings with the specific bulls you selected.
    NOTE: Preliminary progeny values for each trait are also initially shown based on the three bull tiers in Step 2: 
  3. View the Herd and Progeny trait values side by side. The Breed Average for each trait is set as the "0" value, and is indicated by a dotted line. The deviation from Breed Average is shown for the current Herd and Progeny in the chart.

Use this report to see the assigned mates for each animal in the plan:

  1. Export: Use this option to save the mating plan as a PDF or CSV file.
  2. Female IDClosed Identifier: The identifier (Cow Number) for each animal to breed in the plan.
  3. Index: The female's index value. You can also access the females' index values by viewing the Females List in Step 4.
  4. Sire: Female's sire id.
  5. First, Second, Third Options: Three potential mating sires. The mates are ranked in order based on your custom index set in Step 2.
  6. INB%: Inbreeding percentage for each mate option.
